Craft A Compelling Elevator Pitch!

Logo-H

What do you say when someone asks, “What do you do?”  Being prepared for the question, helps you make the best impression in your introduction without rambling. Your response needs to be clear, concise, compelling, and memorable.

An Elevator Pitch is a sweet synopsis of your background and experience or a quick overview of your company where you try to say a lot while only saying a little. It is similar to the Executive Summary in a resume. An Elevator Pitch starts the conversation with the purpose of capturing attention and sparking interest while drawing listeners in by addressing their needs. Choose words that will create the highest impact.

Memorize the key points, but the marketing message should be authentic and tailored to your audience to make a stronger connection. Jacqueline Whitmore uses the analogy of playing an instrument to pitching … “You want to memorize the melody so you can improvise variations and still sound authentic instead of rehearsed.”

When crafting your pitch, consider the following questions:

  • What is your Vision?
  • What does your company do? What problem do you solve?
  • Who are your customers? Who do you help? Do you have a niche?
  • What key benefits do you offer your customers? How do you address your prospect’s pain points?
  • How do you differentiate yourself from the competition? What is your secret sauce?

Consider the following Checklist; an elevator pitch does not have to include all of these components, but it should reflect the essence of your business.

✔️ Name
✔️ Company
✔️ Product
✔️ Target Consumers
✔️ Unique Selling Position (USP)
✔️ Traction [Results, Key Performance Indicator (KPI), Metric]
✔️ Call To Action (CTA)
✔️ Question [To continue the conversation]

The ideal length of the Elevator Pitch is 30 seconds which is the approximate time that it takes to ride an elevator, hence, the name. However, you can make the pitch longer or shorter depending on how much interest is piqued. Here is my short version that I am still in the process of crafting because it is a perpetual work in progress.

“Hi! I am Diana <Name> with Tirzah <Company>. I own a charming vintage <USP> venue <Product> where timeless memories <Traction> are made as families <Market> celebrate the milestones in their lives!” 💕

Depending upon my audience, sometimes, I may stop after ‘timeless memories are made,’ but sometimes, my mini-commercial has a longer version …

“Hi! I am Diana with Tirzah. I own a charming vintage venue where timeless memories are made as families celebrate the milestones in their lives whether it is a wedding, birthday, graduation, shower, etc. There are so many reasons to celebrate! We are located in the heart of the Downtown Belton Historic District near the old courthouse on N. East Street <Location>. I would love to give you a tour <CTA> of our historic building sometime!!” 💕

Tirzah - Belton Journal Ad

After delivering the pitch, if you are met with awkward silence, consider ending the elevator pitch with a question to keep the conversation going. If there is awkward silence after my spiel, then I may go on to say a trivial tidbit of history about the building. 😀

Opportunities are everywhere, and we cannot always control when they appear so it is best to live by the Boy Scout Motto and “Be Prepared!”

Tell us a little about yourself! What do you do?

Joshua Marin and Christine Torti’s Wedding

Logo-H

Their love story began with a spark on the Forth of July!  Christine and Rosita were in Nursing School together, and Rosita introduced Christine to her cousin, Joshua, at their family picnic on Independence Day. As the fireworks were lighting up the sky, they were falling in love.

Their love story continued as Josh proposed by making a video asking Christine’s parents’ blessing for Christine’s hand in marriage, and he then had the video played at a movie theater during the previews for Doctor Strange.

Christine had her Bridal Shower at Tirzah, our vintage venue.  It was hosted by her friend, Rosita, whom Christine had asked to be her Maid of Honor.

During the shower, they played the Toilet Paper Wedding Dress Shower Game.  The game had everyone laughing!

It is always so amazing to see the Couple’s wedding vision come together into a magical day.  Candice Bahnsen with Tirzah designed several personalized chalkboards for the special event.

Josh and Christine were married in the beautiful St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Temple, Texas.

There are several parts to a wedding that are my favorite such as the Groom seeing his Bride for the first time as she is walking down the aisle, or the Pronouncement of Marriage when the couple is introduced as husband and wife … “you may now kiss the Bride,” but I love getting to witness a very sentimental moment with the Bride and her Dad just moments before she walks down the aisle.

The Couple’s reception was held at Cathedral Oaks, a grand 6,800-square-feet event center nestled on six oak-covered acres. The picturesque setting provides a serene experience from beginning to end.

The reception facility has a plush Bride Room where the bride and her bridesmaids enjoyed mimosas in their matching bathrobes as they were getting ready for the big celebration.

During the toasts, the Groom started by toasting to all of the guests.  The Best Man, Maid of Honor, and the Father of the Bride toasted sweet words to the Bride and Groom including a beautiful quote … “Love isn’t always perfect. It isn’t a fairy tale or a storybook, and it doesn’t always come easy. Love is overcoming obstacles, facing challenges, fighting to be together, holding on and never letting go. It is a short word, easy to spell, difficult to define, and impossible to live without. Love is work, but most of all, Love is realizing that every hour, every minute, and every second was worth it because you did it together.”

CJ’s Event Catering served a delicious meal at the reception. The professional photographer was Shane with Captivating Weddings, and the DJ was Andrew Trevino. Georgetown Blooms was the florist for the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres.  Confetti Rentals created a wow factor with their impressive design as you entered the reception hall.

After the wedding, the couple travelled to Moorea for their Honeymoon and stayed at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort and Spa, and then adventured on to Bora Bora and stayed at the Four Seasons.

Josh and Christine had many romantic and exciting memories from Polynesian dancing, to kayaking in the turquoise waters, to a Submarine Scooter excursion.

Dawn of a New Year!

Logo-H

Do you have a New Year’s Resolution?

Encouragement can come from the most unexpected places.  Have you ever watched the movie, “New Year’s Eve?” A moving moment in the movie was when the character played by Josh Duhamel makes a toast to his deceased father where he repeats the question that his dad used to ask every New Year’s Eve: “What would you do today if you knew you wouldn’t fail?”

New Years Eve Movie
New Year’s Eve Movie

When we watched the movie and heard this question, we instantly knew the answer, and it was not long after, that we purchased an abandoned, condemned building.

Tirzah Historic Building Before Restoration Venue Belton Texas
Abandoned and condemned historic building before restoration

Other inspirational New Year quotes from the movie are the following.

💜 “And as you all can see, the ball has stopped half-way to its perch. It’s suspended there to remind us before we pop the champagne and celebrate the New Year, to stop, and reflect on the year that has gone by, to remember both our triumphs and our missteps, our promises made and broken, the times we opened ourselves up to great adventures … or closed ourselves down for fear of getting hurt, because that’s what New Year’s all about, getting another chance, a chance to forgive, to do better, to do more, to give more, to love more, and to stop worrying about what if … and start embracing what will be, so when that ball drops at midnight, and it will drop, let’s remember to be nice to each other, kind to each other, and not just tonight but all year long.”

New Years Eve Movie - Ball Drop Times Square

💜 “Sometimes it feels like there are so many things in this world we can’t control. Earthquakes, floods, reality shows … But it’s important to remember the things that we can, like forgiveness, second chances, fresh starts … Because the one thing that turns the world from the longing place to a beautiful place … is love. Love and any of its forms. Love gives us hope … Hope for the New Year. That’s what New Year’s Eve is to me. Hope and a great party!”

New Years Eve Movie - Toast the New Year

💜 “Some people swear there’s no beauty left in the world, no magic. Then, how do you explain the entire world coming together on one night to celebrate the hope of a New Year?”

New Years Eve Movie - Ball Drop New York Times Square

As an alternative to resolutions, selecting an inspirational word or phrase of the year can bring clarity in guiding your daily actions. Generally, it is a positive, motivational, or action word depending on your goals.  The word can be a beacon or anchor in your decision-making process.

We have chosen the word “SHINE” for 2018. This word brings back fond memories at church singing “This little Light of Mine, I’m going to let it Shine!” The song not only brings back cherished memories, but the meaning of the lyrics are significant as well. As we pondered the word, it also represents phrases such as “Shine Kindness,” “Rise and Shine,” “Shine Bright,” and “Choose to Shine.”

Here is a sample of motivational words to start brainstorming for a word that might provide inspiration as you embark on your journey in 2018.

Word of the Year Motivation

Create your own list of words; oftentimes, there is a theme. Select your favorite from the list of characteristics, and then narrow it down to what inspires you. You could write the word on a post-it note or create a beautiful graphic for inspiration to look at as a reminder. Here is a sample of motivational phrases.

💜 Celebrate the small successes
💜 Create healthy habits
💜 Embrace change
💜 Live sparkly
💜 Open your heart
💜 Seek excellence not perfection
💜 Take a chance
💜 Trust your intuition
💜 New Year, New Start, New You

One year, I spotted a simple card at the Dollar Tree that spoke to me, uplifted my spirits, and made me smile. The card was a cute little monkey with the words “Hang In There!” I still have the card as a constant reminder when I am getting ready each morning that storms do pass, and change often comes with a blessing.

Hang In There Inspirational Phrase

From first kisses to lost loves, as the clock strikes midnight, what is your dream when you ring in the New Year? What would you do if you knew you would not fail? Celebrate love, hope, forgiveness, second chances, and fresh starts. Your journey begins with the first step. Now, go out there and do it!

Dawn of a New Year Happy New Year Dreams Goals Resolutions

Happy New Year!! Enjoy a beautiful song “Have a Little Faith In Me” from the “New Year’s Eve” movie.

FOOTPRINTS OF HIS LOVE

Footprints of His Love Sock Collection Drive for the Homeless

Our initiative for this holiday season is to provide Socks for the Homeless. Countless families the world over are enjoying Christmas traditions; however, not all individuals are so blessed. Christmas gifts, shoes, and socks are most likely something we take for granted. Did you know that socks are one of the least donated items to shelters but one that is most needed? Socks illustrate a concern for public health. For the Homeless, the lack of clean, dry footwear is a discomfort that can lead to serious foot problems including frostbite and infections. Socks are a sought-after item because heat often escapes through feet. When your feet are cold, everything is cold. Access to something as basic as a clean, dry pair of socks can literally save lives within our country’s Homeless population. There is a desperate need for socks as the cold weather approaches.

Footprints of His Love Sock Collection Drive for the Homeless

Embrace the Christmas spirit and make the holiday season a little warmer. We are collecting socks for less fortunate families and raising awareness of the plight of the Homeless! The Homeless rarely get anything new, so clean, warm socks are a true treasure. Just think about how a nice new pair of socks feels when you slip them on your feet, and then imagine life independent from these paired prizes. In the words of Sidney Falken, “Walking a mile in someone’s shoes takes on a much different meaning when that person is Homeless.”

How can you help? Share some socks!! We need socks for all age groups and gender. In addition to the socks, we are collecting note cards of encouragement to give with the socks. If you feel led, then consider donating a pair of socks and/or writing a heartfelt note. This simple kind gesture does not take much time or money, but it will have a big impact on the individuals you help. The socks and cards of encouragement will then be distributed to our local organizations that help the Homeless.

A Sock Collection box will be located at the entryway of Tirzah at 115 N. East Street in the downtown Belton Historic District. We will also be collecting socks during the Christmas on the Chisholm Trail festival on December 2, 2017, from Noon until 7:00 p.m. where you can celebrate an Old Fashion Christmas.

Josh Champ and Ashley Beckham’s Wedding

Logo-H

This love story began approximately 8 years ago when Josh and Ashley started dating. Josh proposed to Ashley at his birthday party a year ago last May. Friends and family were invited to the celebration. The last present that Josh opened was from Ashley’s dad. When he opened the present, he said, “Awesome! Just what I have always wanted.” With tears starting to well up in his eyes, he walked towards Ashley and got down on one knee, looked Ashley in the eye, and said, “You.” Then Josh asked for Ashley’s hand in marriage, and “by the grace of God, she said Yes!!!” It was such a sweet surprise and so many kept it a secret. Ashley described that day as “one of the best days in her life!” Josh said, “I got the best birthday present that I could ever ask for!”

As we helped a beautiful Bride and her family decorate for her wedding reception, it was amazing to see the Bride’s vision come together into a magical setting.

Tirzah Central Texas Wedding Josh and Ashley Champ Rustic Acres Reception Decorating

Josh and Ashley were married in Manning Chapel at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor where they both attended college. A special touch in their wedding ceremony was a Unity Cross. The Unity Cross is a unique way to celebrate the joining of a Bride and Groom together as one in marriage. The outer cross represents strength, leadership, and protection of the man. The intricate detail of the inner cross represents the beauty and many capabilities of the woman. The Bride’s inner cross is placed inside the protection of the Groom’s outer cross and symbolizes the two becoming one. Three pins hold the sculpture together and represents the Trinity for the security and completeness that only our Heavenly Father can provide.

The Couple’s reception was held at Rustic Acres Event Center. Rustic Acres is a 5,500 square foot building that can easily accommodate over 300 seated guests, and the facility is nestled on over 22 peaceful acres.

During the toasts, the Best Man said, “Marriage is like fine wine, it gets better with age. Cheers to the years!” The Matron of Honor included a beautiful quote … “Love isn’t always perfect.

El Chico catered the reception. The professional photographer was a longtime friend. Creative Innovations was the florist for the Bridal bouquet, and she also added an extra floral touch to the wedding cake which was decorated by Tracylyn with Simply Sweet. Ashley and Josh have been childhood friends with Tracylyn’s kids. The Mother of the Bride’s friend, Pam, had the honor of cutting the wedding cake; they had attended high school together and have remained friends as Ashley was growing up.

This is a look of a man in love! ❤

A very special moment for us during the evening was during the Mother-Son dance. The sweet Bride came up to us and thanked us for all of our help. That simple gesture was a treasure!

Josh and Ashley incorporated an Anniversary Dance into the celebration. The couple that had been married the longest was 56 years. That is quite an accomplishment and wonderful role models for a happy marriage. This couple was Josh’s grandparents, Jim and Sandy Champ.

The Bride and Groom included some sweet touches to the celebration such as up-lighting with their names displayed on the wall, and the couple also served Kettle-corn and Movie Popcorn as one of the appetizers with cute sacks that said, “Thanks for Poppin’ in on our big day!”

Hurricanes and Travel

Logo-H

Hurricane’s are powerful storms that leave a path of destruction with strong rotating winds and torrential rains. These massive storms form over large bodies of water and move toward land.

These storms happen worldwide; they are called typhoons in the North Pacific Ocean; around Australia, they are called cyclones with wind blowing counterclockwise in the Northern Hemisphere and clockwise in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale is from 1-5. Category 4 leaves extreme damage with winds between 131 – 155 mph, and 5 leaves catastrophic damage with sustained winds greater than 155 mph. The combination of the storm surge, battering waves, and high winds is deadly. “The price you may pay for not evacuating is your life.” Hubert Minnis, Bahamas

Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale

Each year, many parts of the United States experience tropical storms and hurricanes. A major problem in the United States is that shorelines attract large numbers of people from Maine to Texas, and people’s perception of risk has become complacent with delayed actions because weaker storms have resulted in a false impression of a hurricane’s damage potential.  It has been 12 years since Hurricane Katrina made landfall on the Louisiana/Mississippi border on August 29, 2005, as a Category 3 which produced the highest storm surge ever recorded in the United States.

Even though hurricanes form in the Pacific Ocean, these storms almost never reach the Western Coast of the United States. There are two main reasons for this disparity; one of which is hurricanes tend to move toward the west-northwest; therefore, the movement carries the storm away from the West Coast. The second factor is the difference in water temperatures along the East and West coasts. The East Coast provides a source of warm water which is fuel for hurricanes. The West Coast has cooler temperatures which does not provide enough thermal energy to sustain a hurricane’s strength.

The frequency and intensity of Caribbean storms vary greatly from year to year; the odds of your vacation being disrupted by weather remain quite low.  According to Weather Underground in their hurricane archive, the most hurricanes that have ever happened in one year in the Atlantic since 1950 was 15 in 2005, and the least in one year was 2.

Hurricane Harvey Texas
I-10 between Houston and Beaumont, Texas during Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey in 2017, a Category 4 major hurricane, left Southeast Texas in a state of catastrophic flooding.  It was the first major hurricane to make landfall in the United States since 2005, and Harvey holds the wettest storm on record in the contiguous United States with up to 50 inches of rain in some areas including Houston — more rainfall than Houston receives in a year.

Hurricane Harvey Rockport Texas

Harvey made landfall near Rockport, Texas, at peak intensity. FEMA director, Brock Long, called Harvey the worst disaster in Texas history.

Hurricane Harvey with Pet Rescue

Pets are now included in disaster plans resulting from lessons learned during Hurricane Katrina which helped save pets from flooding in Texas during Hurricane Harvey. During the devastation of Katrina, many residents stayed and some died rather than heed rescuers’ instructions to leave pets behind as waters inundated homes.

Hurricane Harvey with Pet Rescue
The lives of humans and animals in our communities are intertwined.

Hurricane is a Caribbean Indian word for “evil spirit and big wind. Native Americans called these storms Hurakons, after “a great spirit who commanded the east wind.”

Hurricane Irma Satellite Image NASA

Within days of Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma developed. Irma, the most powerful Atlantic Ocean hurricane in recorded history, made its first landfall in the islands of the northeast Caribbean. The hurricane is sweeping across the Caribbean and leaving destruction in its wake with rising tide levels rise and wave surges that could cover an entire island. Officials warn people to seek protection from the hurricane’s onslaught and closed with “May God protect us all.”

Hurricane Irma Puerto Rico

Mark Brantley, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nevis and St. Kitts described the moments before the storm, “It is pitch black outside, but the furious rain and the howling winds make a frightening symphony.” Thankfully, Nevis was spared the worst, but they are still assessing.

Nevis Caribbean Island Four Seasons
Nevis, a beautiful Caribbean Island

However, the the two-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda was not as fortunate.  As Irma hit the Caribbean, winds of 185 mph sounded like a “freight train.” The tiny island of Barbuda was turned to ruins with more than 90 percent of buildings damaged and barely habitable. The airport on Barbuda was also destroyed, which means that Antigua will be used as a hub, with aid being brought across to Barbuda by boat and helicopter.

Emergency Information

Geographical issues and emergencies may differ, but having a basic survival kit to be ready at a moment’s notice is very important in crisis situations.  Items to include in Disaster Supply Kits:

  • Water, one gallon of water per person per day for at least 3 days for drinking and sanitation
  • Food, at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food items; Baby products, Pet food, Mess kits, Manual can opener
  • Battery-powered radio, Battery-powered fan/heater
  • Portable lighting, Flashlight, Batteries, Candles, Matches in a water-proof container
  • Whistle to signal emergency crews for help
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Cell phone with chargers, Walkie-talkie
  • Hatchet, Hammer, Wrench, Pliers, Scissors, Duct tape
  • First Aid Kit, Prescription medications, and Non-prescription medications such as pain relievers
  • Glasses, Contact lens and solution
  • Feminine supplies, Personal hygiene items, Plastic Bags
  • Bleach; When diluted, 9 parts water to 1 part bleach, can be used as a disinfectant; 16 drops per gallon of water can be used to treat the water in an emergency according to FEMA.
  • Change of clothing, gloves, coat, and sturdy shoes
  • Blanket for each person
  • Paper, pencil, colors, books, puzzles
  • Cash, Important documents such as copy of Insurance Policy and Social Security Cards in a waterproof container

Hurricanes’ names are established by an international committee of the United Nations World Meteorological Organization. Every six years, the list of names begins again. For example, the 2017 list will be used again in 2023. 2017 Tropical Storm and Hurricane Names: Arlene, Bret, Cindy, Don, Emily, Franklin, Gert, Harvey, Irma, Jose, Katia, Lee, Maria, Nate, Ophelia, Philippe, Rina, Sean, Tammy, Vince, and Whitney.

Atlantic Hurricane Names by Year

The names of especially destructive hurricanes are usually retired.

Retired Atlantic Hurricane Names by Year

When making travel arrangements, the Atlantic basin hurricane season runs from June to November with September being a peak month. The Atlantic basin includes the entire Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico. You may be able to secure reduced rates with fewer crowds in this low season so it may be worth it to take the chance. Statistically, there is a very low risk that a hurricane will impact your vacation. The ABC islands of Aruba, Bonaire and Curaçao are historically less likely than other Caribbean islands to be hit by a hurricane.

If you are planning a vacation during hurricane season, stay abreast of weather conditions. Thanks to satellite technology, no hurricane goes unnoticed. They are even equipped with sensors to pinpoint the center, or eye, of a storm. When traveling to destinations where a storm is predicted, travelers can often re-book their travel without any change fee. Purchasing travel insurance is highly recommended.  The majority of travel insurance with trip cancellation and trip interruption coverage will reimburse your pre-paid, non-refundable expenses lost as a result of canceling a trip or ending a trip prematurely due to severe weather.

Hurricane Harvey Texas

In the words of Diane Ackerman, “Hurricane season brings a humbling reminder that, despite our technologies, most of nature remains unpredictable.” As you take adventures, listen to weather alerts, heed travel advisories, and take precautionary measures!

Hurricane Harvey Texas Wedding

Amidst the tragedy, many heartwarming stories have emerged such as this beautiful love story.  Chris and Shelley Holland were flooded in due to Hurricane Harvey in Texas. Their church and reception hall were flooded, their wedding cake was cancelled, catering was cancelled, and many guests were unable to attend their ceremony. They fought through all obstacles and pulled off a beautiful wedding. Love Conquers All! 💕

Tirzah Belton Rocks Owl Love

Something as simple as a rock is spreading smiles. People all across Belton are having fun, getting outside, enjoying time with family and friends, and spreading a little joy. Rocks are being painted and hidden around the Belton area to brighten people’s day. It is bringing our community together in such a fun unique way.

It is all about family and community unity. Many are involved as individuals, families, and businesses.

Tirzah Belton Rocks4

This community craze began when the Bostick family was on a trip in Washington when Chance found a painted rock while on a hike with his family with “Keep or Re-hide Me” written on the back. The family brought the painted rock tradition home to Belton, Texas.

Rocks are often hidden around the Historic District, Yettie Polk Park, Chisholm Trail Park, the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor, local businesses, and many other surrounding locations.

The process is simple: Find, Paint, Hide! Once you find a decorated rock, you are encouraged to paint a new one and hide it, and then drop a hint on the Facebook group page as to where they are hidden. A clue such as “you can find this one hiding where you would have a great spot to view the parade” along with a photo.

Pictures are posted on the Facebook Group @BeltonRocks with clues of where to find the painted rocks or of smiling faces with their newly found treasures. The painter enjoys the posts because they like to see what has happened to their creation.

Both the young and the young at heart are enjoying Belton Rocks. Local nursing home residents are enjoying the love of rock painting to sprinkle bits of happy to brighten up the world because it brings joy to the heart when you hear a child in the park exclaim, “I found one!”

Quilt rocks may also be found where you divide the rock into sections. You paint one section, and each time its found, they paint their own design in another section and then re-hide.

Mod Podging with napkins onto rocks has become really popular. First, cut out a design from the napkin that would fit best on the rock.  Use a brush to paint a thin coat of Mod Podge on the rock and press the napkin design carefully onto the rock and smooth out the wrinkles, and then add another coat of Mod Podge to the rock.

We even have some traveling rocks. After the rocks are painted, some are taking the rocks on trips and leaving the unexpected surprise along the traveler’s route. Belton Rocks is starting a map to see how far our rocks have gone and relay some of the stories of their journeys. Rocks have traveled from sea to shining sea, from California to Florida.  They have even traveled as far as Cancun, Mexico.

Searching for just the perfect stone is part of the fun. Smooth, rounded stones work the best. Once you have found your canvas, rinse the rock to remove dirt and let it dry. You may want to draw your design onto the rock. Acrylic paint works well. For fine detail, a toothpick could be used as a paintbrush. Once you have finished painting the rock, seal the design with Mod Podge to make sure your art lasts for a long time. For more information on rock painting, That Art Place in Belton is hosting a free painted rock workshop on June 3rd from 10am – 3pm.

Belton is participating in an even bigger effort called International Drop A Rock Day to be held on Monday, July 3rd for rock artists all around the world to paint a rock with the same word on the same day and drop it somewhere for someone to find and brighten their day. The chosen word for this year is Peace!

Tirzah Belton Rocks Drop A Rock Peace

This new Belton pastime brings so many benefits:
💖 Explore the city
💖 See the history of downtown
💖 Enjoy nature and the outdoors
💖 Spend quality time together
💖 Families having fun
💖 Time for adventure
💖 Scavenger hunt
💖 Solving mysteries from the posted clues

💖 Builds a sense of togetherness
💖 Community unity
💖 Spreading happiness

Texas-size Family Fun in the Belton Historical District

Logo-H

💕 Belton, Texas, Parks and Recreation hosted a Free Tubing and Movie in the Park event on Saturday, June 10, 2017, behind The Gin.

Floating on Nolan Creek was a fun way to beat the heat of the afternoon. All of the children were having a blast, but I had just as much fun as the kids riding the small rapids. People typically bring their own tubes at this event, but tubes were available for people to use.

Tirzah Travels - Belton Texas - Tubing on Nolan Creek - Family Fun

Tirzah Travels - Belton Texas - Taylor Tubing

We enjoyed a live music performance on the banks of Nolan Creek by a band known as Touch Of Class. As they performed on the Main Stage, they played great dance hits from the 1950’s to today as the crowd was dancing to the awesome tunes. For more information on the band and their schedule, see http://touchofclass.webs.com.

Tirzah Travels - Belton Texas - Band Touch of Class

After tubing, we walked to Scores Sports Bar on S. East Street to get some pizza to eat while we were waiting for the movie to start when the sun went down.

Tirzah Travels - Belton Texas - Scores Sports Bar

The movie, Sing, was played on the big screen. The story-line was about a dapper Koala named Buster Moon that presides over a once-grand theater that has fallen on hard times. He took one final chance to restore his fading jewel to its former glory by producing the world’s greatest singing competition. Set in a world like ours but entirely inhabited by animals, there were five contestants that emerged … a mouse, a timid elephant, a pig, a gorilla and a punk-rock porcupine.

Tirzah Travels - Belton Texas - Movies Under the Stars - Sing

The community event was successful in achieving many measures such as making fun affordable for everyone with the various social activities in the Downtown Belton Historical District; people were enjoying the beauty of nature and getting some exercise while having fun; connecting with others in the community helps to form lasting friendships; and the fun family-time creates wonderful memories that last a lifetime.  All of these quality metrics strengthen the community for a wonderful place to live.

Tirzah Travels - Belton Texas - Movies Under the Stars - Family Fun

The picturesque setting, tubing on the creek, dancing in the park, pizza, laughter, and movies under the stars made the perfect combination for building memories! 💕
